Course Fee Regulations
This is a translation of our schedule of fees. Please notice that only the German version is legally binding.
Preambele
The Board of Trustees of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin approved the following amendment to the Course Fee Regulations (PDF) of the Language Centre at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (University Gazette No. 37/2005) on 20 November 2009 based on the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG) as amended on 13 February 2003 (Berlin State Gazette - GVBl., p. 82), last amended by the Twelfth BerlHG Amendment Act on 12 July 2007 (GVBl., p. 278], and § 3 para. 1 item 6 of the Statutes of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.1
- § 2 Levying of fees
- Paras. 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 shall read as follows:
(2) For members of Humboldt-Universität, the course fee amounts to 10 EUR per contact hour (SWS2). Staff members and alumni of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin are to pay 15 EUR per SWS.
(3) Should other people, within the limits of the available capacity, be permitted to attend courses, the fee amount shall be based on the Regulations on Auditing Students in place at Humboldt-Universität (institutes of higher education).
(4) Students in free Master’s degree programmes offered by several universities are also obliged to pay fees. If students are enrolled at Humboldt-Universität, the fee amounts to 10 EUR per SWS. Students enrolled in these study programmes at other universities, pay the auditor fee.
(6) In order to sit the German language proficiency test required for entry to a German university (DSH3), a fee in the amount of 150 EUR must be paid.
(7) Students of Humboldt-Universität can sit the UNIcert® and the university’s internal Latin exam free of charge at the Language Centre. Staff members and alumni of Humboldt-Universität pay a fee of 50 EUR, auditing students pay a fee in the amount of 100 EUR.
(8) Language assessments and proficiency tests held and compiled by the Language Centre are subject to fees. For those already participating in language courses at the Language Centre, the fee amounts to 20 EUR. For all others, the fee amounts to 50 EUR. For language tests that are a prerequisite for taking the DSH at Humboldt-Universität, there is a fee in the amount of 20 EUR. - The following para. 9 is added:
(9) A fee of 5 EUR is levied for the issuing of duplicates of certificates.

- § 3 Exceptions
- Para. 1 shall read as follows:
(1) Foreign full-time students of German studies taking German language courses at the Language Centre as part of their study programme are exempt from course fees. Foreign students who, in the context of bilateral agreements, are enrolled at Humboldt-Universität and whose contracts explicitly contain language lessons are also exempt from course fees. In this case, the relevant documentation must be provided as evidence.

(2) Course fees are used exclusively for the maintenance and expansion of additional courses and services as well as for the related costs.

(1) Course fees, under the provisions of § 2 para. 2, must be paid before the beginning of a course. Students at Humboldt-Universität are not to pay their fees in cash. Staff members and alumni of Humboldt-Universität as well as auditing students are to pay on-site at the Language Centre.

- The present amendment becomes effective on the day after publication in the University Gazette of Humboldt-Universität.
