The German Intensive Course (DaF) before the summer semester takes place from February 28th to March 28th, 2024.

    The result of the placement test on the first day of the course determines the language level of your German course. The test result is valid regardless of the German course you have registered for.

Detailed course information

  • Beginning of the course with a placement test

    The Study Preparatory German Intensive Course starts on Friday (February 28th, 2024) with an registration, induction, and a placement test.

    Registration for the placement test:
    9:30
    Location: University Building, Dorotheenstr. 26, 10117 Berlin

    For the registration all participants must show their passport and bring along their registration confirmation.
    Please note that a placement test on this day is mandatory for all participants, even if you have already completed our placement test online!

  • First day of the German classes

    The first day of classes will take place on Monday (March 3rd, 2024) at the Language Centre of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

    Location: 3rd floor of the Language Centre of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Dorotheenstraße 65, 10117 Berlin

  • Course times

    The courses take place from Monday to Friday, 09:00 am to 13:30 pm.

  • Placement test online

    In advance, you may complete the following test:

    On the first day of the German course there will be a compulsory placement test for all participants!

  • Placement test 1st day

    The result of the placement test on the first day of the course determines the language level of your German course. The test result is valid regardless of the German course you have registered for.

  • Language levels

    The Study Preparatory German Intensive course, the placement test and the awarding of certificates are strictly based on the classification of language levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. These specifications may differ from those of other countries.

Fees and expenses

  • Course prices

    German intensive course before the summer semester: 500 EUR
    German intensive course before the winter semester: 500 EUR

  • Course fee

    Includes: registration fee, placement test, German lessons, teaching materials/books, Certificate with ECTS points and grade, two cultural events

    Not included: transfer fees, shipping fees for visa invitation letter, public transportation tickets (you are not entitled to a student discount)

  • Visa fee

    A visa invitation letter sent by email or fax is free of charge.

  • Cancellation fees

    If you cancel your participation 14 days before the beginning of the course, a cancellation fee of 50 EUR will be charged. If you cancel within 14 days before the beginning of the course or if you cancel after the beginning of the course, you will not be reimbursed any of the fee.

  • Bank transfer fees

    All bank transfer fees have to be paid by the applicant! Please inform yourself about the amount of the fees for a bank transfer to Germany at your bank!

  • Insurance obligation

    Be sure to take out health insurance for the duration of the course. This must be valid for Germany (preferably for Europe). We also strongly recommend that you take out accident and liability insurance. Otherwise, you are liable for all culpably caused damage.

Payment information

  • Payment deadlines

    Within three weeks after the registration, the full course fee must be paid. If the payment is not credited to our account within this period, we have to cancel your registration. Your registration for the course can only be definitively confirmed once the course fee has been received in full!

    German intensive course before the winter semester: 30th June

Visa

  • Visa requirement

    You are responsible for your visa application! Usually a tourist visa is sufficient for our 4-week German courses. Please inform yourself at the German Embassy in your home country about the entry and residence regulations.

  • Visa invitation

    We offer to send you an official invitation to support your application at the German Embassy. We can send an official invitation by email free of charge. The invitation is only valid for the duration of the course!

  • Code of Conduct

    1. The participants of the Study Preparatory German Intensive Course behave fairly. In particular, they respect the right of free expression of instructors and other participants.
    2. You assume responsibility for your own learning and prepare yourself beforehand with examination and study regulations. Your examination and learning tasks are provided independently and on time, using only permitted aids in this context.
    3. Participants assume responsibility for problems that might appear during their studies or courses. In conflict situations, they are supposed to react appropriately and to contribute to constructive and solidary solutions.
    4. They treat each other respectfully. This includes being attentive, focusing on, and actively participating in the courses. Therefore, the use of cell phones and smartphones should be limited during the courses to the necessary.
    5. The participants of the Study Preparatory German Intensive Course appear on time for the courses.
